How I Won the Associated Content Top 1000 Badge

Jane Meyer
Associated Content, thank you for the honor of receiving your "Top 1000" badge for 2008. It was totally unexpected but very much appreciated. This honor validates my writing aspirations. After reading about the requirements for being selected for the "Top 1000", I came to the conclusion that the rules for winning "Top 1000" honors are based solely on page views.

This makes sense, as page views are a measurement of a content producer's popularity and in turn, the popularity of the entire website. Page views increase Associated Content's clout in regards to the entire Web and they play a significant role in ad revenue. The more page views obtained by Associated Content, the more they can charge advertisers.

The ironic twist about my "Top 1000" achievement is that I don't promote my work at all. Since I write under a pen name, I prefer to keep my true identity private. So I refuse to post my articles to my Facebook page, or send my articles to friends to read.

I also don't have the time to maintain a blog which has links back to my Associated Content articles, although I have read many tutorial articles which give instructions on how to perform these exact article-promoting actions.

Every time I was about to start a blog, I reconsidered this decision based on the fact that a blog needs constant maintenance and attention. And then, every time I wanted to post a really great article to Facebook, I changed my mind due to the possibility that I was risking giving away my pen name identity. So, in the end, I just let my articles gain exposure on their own.

I think that the other factor in receiving this award was the amount of articles I contributed, although the pace was inconsistent. I joined at the end of January 2008 but didn't write any articles during the months of July, August, September and October. I plan on doing the same things in 2009 that I did last year, only now I have one year of experience with article writing and will use that knowledge to my advantage.

Good job making the top 1000, even with inconsistent writing.
