How to Have a Wonderful Christmas

Yes, I know it is only August. But do you realize that Christmas is only a little over four months away? That's right. So what are your plans for the holiday season? Here are a few ideas that could help make your Christmas Season even merrier and brighter.

The first thing you must remember is exactly what Christmas stands for. It is not about presents, Santa Claus, the biggest and most decorated Christmas trees, the most decorations on a house, and how many gifts you can get. Christmas is about a birth. It is a birthday in other words. It is the day a baby was born. This baby came to give his all for us. So why do we not give more of ourselves for others during Christmas?

One thing to do is simply to volunteer with a ministry center or homeless shelter which will be feeding people on Christmas. Help by preparing the meal and then stay and help serve the meal. Then when everyone has gotten a plate, go around and talk to the people there. And I do mean the homeless. Try to spread some Christmas joy to them.

You could also find an elderly or sick neighbor who cannot put up their own decorations and decorate their home for them. Then on Christmas day take them a plate lunch. If they are able to get out, invite them to your house. If you know them well enough and think they will let you, go to their house and have Christmas if they cannot get out.

Be a bell ringer for the Salvation Army. This is one thing that it seems not enough people volunteer for. They are always needing bell ringers.

Pick a name or several names from an Angel Tree and buy gifts for a child who will not have any. Of if you just know a child or children in your neighborhood that will not have gifts on Christmas morning, buy some to give them. Even if it is some .50 cent books or some crayons and a coloring book or something along those lines, a child who will not have anything would love them.

Another thing that a lot of people do not think of is to visit a nursing home on Christmas. There are so many elderly people who do not have any family at all and will not have any visitors on Christmas. Take some cookies and go visit with those people. Or volunteer to help with a Christmas party they home may be having for them.

Therefore, for you to have the very best and merriest Christmas ever think about someone else for a change. It is not that hard to do if you will try. Plus it will make you feel wonderful.

Some people do not think about visiting a nursing home during the Christmas Holidays. But there are a lot of those people who do not have any family at all to visit them.
