How to Work as an Efficient Recruiter at a Staffing Firm
In any organization, there are goals and targets that need to be achieved. The salary also depends on the person's achievement. Interestingly, recruiters can get additional perks and hikes if they are consistent achievers and good performers. If you have just joined as a recruiter at a recruitment consultant firm, you might feel a little giddy working in a fast paced environment. The first day might seem tough and you would not know where to start.
Day 1 as a recruiter
You would be given simple hiring requirements in the first 3 days. These would enable you to get a hand of the things around you. If you are a non- technical recruiter and are working on hiring executives, you would use a different style of talking. These positions require you to speak with at least 15 candidates to send in their confirmation to attend the interview.
You would be surprised that only half of the total members would end up at the interview. Finally, you might have 3 or 4 at the final interview and 1 or 2 members who get selected and are offered the job. That would give you an 8 to 10 percent of the revenue. In order to get more candidates placed, you would do well to send bulk text messages about the job opening along with your name, number and email. This can get better responses from the serious candidates.
Day 2 as a recruiter
Since you know how to talk with the people at the initial executive levels, you would be given a little higher position to work on the next day onwards. Here, you would do well to begin with a little general conversation. Start with a cheerful note about how their day has been so far. Then get to the topic and speak about the job opening. Always mention that the salary would be negotiable. This is a luring aspect that interests any candidate.
Have the job opening details ready to be sent as an email if the candidate requests you for the same. If you wish, you could speak to multiple candidates and send bulk emails to the candidates in Bcc. Always send bulk mails regarding job openings in Bcc. The candidates may not be interested to know that they were a part of a bulk mailer for the job and might skip the interview.
For the manager levels, you can contact 10 to 12 good candidates who speak well, have the required experience and good education background. Check for a stability of at least 2 years in a single job. There would be lesser dropouts for the interview and you would be successful in placing a good candidate.
Day 3 as a recruiter
Today you might be lucky to work on senior level hiring. These might include chief finance officers, deputy general managers and senior managers. These would fetch you higher revenues compared to the executive and manager levels. Depending on the percentage claimed by your firm, you get 15-20 percent of the share if you successfully place a candidate. These positions get very high salaries and are considered to be high revenue mandates for recruiters.
You would find it easy to work on these high level mandates if you use the right technique. You might find the email id and phone number of these persons on a job portal. In case you find them on a social networking site, you might only find their email. In such cases, always send a detailed mail to 6 or 8 such people. Mention in detail about the job description and ask for their contact number so you could talk to them further.
If you send a well drafted mail, you can expect a good reply too. It does take 1 to 2 months to recruit such senior level positions. Hence, you should always plan a month in advance to have one senior position being filled in the successive months. One such successfully filled position can help you even over-achieve your month's target.
These simple tips can help you to be a successful recruiter at a consulting recruitment firm. After a week at the job, you would slowly get an idea of planning and executing your tasks with higher efficiency. You need to constantly keep in touch with all the candidates and ensure that they attend the scheduled interviews on time. Keeping in touch with the candidates ensures to hold their interest in the position. Once they attend the final interview, it is important that they join on the offered date. Once a candidate joins, you can happily mail your invoice to the client and reach a step forward on your given target.
