How to Work at Home Successfully

Start by Setting Your Goals

Dawn Conklin
One of the most important things that leads to success in life is setting goals. This is a step that many people skip and then wonder why they do not get where they want in business or even in life. Setting goals for life and business will help you become the person you want to be. Know what you want first then figure out what you have to do to achieve this. When I first started working at home I just thought I wanted to be financially set. I had no real goals at first. Once I learned about setting goals, it all became a reality.

Setting goals in life is very easy. You are going to ask yourself a couple of questions and write the answers down on a piece of paper. This piece of paper needs to be close to your workspace so you can constantly remind yourself of them.

The first question is: what do I want in my life? My goals had changed from wanting to be financially set to:
Wanting to work at home
Wanting to be debt free
I wanted to own my own house
Be home to raise my kids
Buy a new car
Be able to take my kids on vacation
Have enough money to put my kids through college
This is a big difference from just saying I wanted to be financially set. Now put onto paper, I have something to really work for. Anytime I would fall behind I would look at the goals and think about my kids. It would suddenly motivate me again.

The next question you need to ask yourself is: what do I want from my business? These were my business goals:
To become successful at working at home
To make enough money for my family to live comfortable
To work efficiently and be productive
To help as many people to become successful as I possibly could
I had basic business goals but being successful and helping others is enough to motivate me.

Now write down details of what you want from life and what you would want from your business. Even if you are a freelancer, you are in business for yourself. It may be that you want to sign a certain number of contracts with people a week or that you want to write so many articles a day. Whatever you need to do with your business to become successful. After writing them down you need to figure out how long you would like to give yourself to accomplish these goals. I gave myself a time frame of 5 years.

Think of all the things that you will need to do in order to accomplish your goals. It may be advertising your business, researching, connecting with people, writing articles or anything else you may need to do. Write them all down. This step should take the longest, really think about anything you need to do. You may need to research and connect with other people to figure out everything you need to do. Decide how many hours a day you will need to spend on everything so you can make yourself a schedule to keep. At the very end of your list, write down what you will do when you accomplish your goals. It may be take a vacation or as simple as going to your favorite restaurant for dinner. This too will help motivate you to accomplish your goals which will in turn lead to a successful business.

Anybody has the power to be successful as long as they use the right tools. Your goals are the first and most important tool. I have been helping people work at home for a few years now and the first thing I teach people is about setting goals.

I stumbled on this blog because I wanted to work from home. finding a job in this economy sorta sucks even if you take all the right steps. i feel like there's a lot of scammers out there. just checked the arise website out, they seem legit. I can tell you from experience, don't download any software or pay for a job offer to work from home. do research about the company before you agree to anything. that can be as simple as googling company names for reviews.

Aida, I completed my application online and took the test, any idea of when and if they'll get in touch?

    Dawn,

Keep doing what you do. My husband and I wrote our goals on our work station wall. Ive been working at home since I gave birth to my baby girl last year and I couldnt afford child care so i quit my job and started working at home. My Husband recently cut his hours at work so he can work at home too and be around our daughter more. We signed up with Arise Virtual Solutions to do customer and technical support over chat and we both put in hours and take turns with the baby. We have a ten year plan to own our house now and hopefully have our cars paid off with in two and half years. I cant imagine what work would be like with out my baby. Shes my motivation and she clocks in and out with me every day.
