How to Workout in a Hotel Room

It's easy for traveling to sabotage your workout routine. Many hotels don't have fitness rooms, and even those that do might have a malfunctioning treadmill or too many people. But traveling doesn't have to mean skipping your regular workout. You can still workout at your hotel.

The easiest workout moves you can do in your hotel room are those that don't require a lot of space. Think crunches or pushups, for instance. Jumping jacks are also a great way to get some cardio into your workout.

However, the most effective way to workout in a hotel is to climb the stairs. The taller the hotel building, the better: there will be a lower likelihood of anyone else using the stairs. To tell the truth, most all hotel guests go straight for the elevator, so the stairs are usually deserted. This makes them a great place for you to get a workout without embarrassingly running into other people while you are dripping with sweat.

To do a stairs workout, go to the bottom of the stairs (or to whatever floor you designate your starting point), then start running up the stairs at a quick pace. If you can, try taking two stairs at a time. Go up at least five floors, then turn around and come back down the stairs. Repeat this process about five times, or as many times as you can

This stairs workout is great for your legs and glutes. It even beats using a stair climber machine in a gym, because that pace on a machine gets monotonous and predictable, whereas you have to exercise more control on a real staircase to maneuver the turns.

When you are climbing stairs, you should always wear exercise shoes with a good tread. You also need to be careful during this workout: one slip, and you could end up with a nasty tumble down the stairs. So always be careful watching your step when doing this stairs workout.

You can also do wall sits inside your hotel room. Do this workout by putting your back against the wall to brace yourself, then squatting down until your knees are at a ninety degree angle. This exercise is also great for strengthening your legs.

Those are a couple exercise ideas for keeping up your workout while on the road. While it's harder to keep up a routine, traveling does not mean you must stop working out.
