1. Choose your subject
Choose a subject that you have a basic knowledge of or one that interests you. Remember that the article will sound less stilted if it appears that you know what you are talking about.
2. Recall your own knowledge
Write down everything you already know about your subject. This will give you a guideline to start your article with.
3. Gather information
Surf the web, books, magazines, etc. to check if your information is correct and save any new facts you would like to add to your article. Remember to make a note of where you got the new facts from so you can give credit to the original writer.
4. Organize your notes
List the facts you want to include in your article in the order you wish to write. This gives you an outline to follow, so next you will only have to fill it in with your own words.
5. Write a rough draft
Using your list, write a paragraph about each fact. Be sure to use your own words. Avoid using big fancy words. The best articles are written in simple language that anyone can understand.
6. Review and revise
The first draft you write is usually not the last. Read through it and decide what you want to keep and what you want to delete.
7. Take a break
When you are finished, lay it aside. A break will give you time to refresh it in your mind.
8. Final review
After several hours or the next day, read it again. Are you satisfied with it? Try reading it out loud as if you were telling this to someone. Would they understand everything you are telling them? Make any changes now.
9. Write your article
Now, write the final copy. Check for spelling and punctuation errors. Correct any mistakes.
10. Submit your article
