How to Write an Auto Restoration Shop Business Plan

David C. Atkin
This is something that have some experience in, I have written more then one business plan for an auto restoration shop. The first one taught me the things that I didn't know about the business. I'm here to tell you; you will learn all about the inner workings of the business.

I used a program called Business Plan Pro; It's a very good program to work with, but it's not an automatic process by any means. You will have to go out and get the information to put in to the program, after that you will see some amazing things happen.

During that process I noticed that the designers of the software Palo Alto Software didn't have an auto restoration shop business plan for people to look at in their download section. The next move for me was to contact them, and see if I could supply them with one; which I did.

During that process I got prices on buildings for sale that would accommodate my shop. But it didn't stop there, I had to get construction repair bids on the buildings, and set-up the shop labor rate; this is something that you need to take very serious, to low and your out of business, to high and no work comes in.

I called that shops in my local area, and posed as a person with a car to restore; I asked about labor rates, and how long the process would take. This is all information that you will need to create a winning business plan for an auto restoration shop.

Due to the state of the economy most banks won't loan to a start-up business. This left me with only one option, I located a investment broker; the first one taught me a huge lesson, if they ask for money up front, it's a scam almost every time; I lost three thousand dollars.

Then I was at the Nextel store getting a new cell phone, and I got chatting whit this guy; who told me about an investment broker that he had just used to broker and investment in his golf course. I got the information from him, and Todd turned out to be a great guy.

I will also warn you; don't expect this to happen over night, I have been on it for five years now. The business plan has already secured me seven million dollars of the ten million that I need; that makes it a winning business plan.

There is a lot of studying on the business side of the operations; by the time your done you will know what's going on inside your business. You'll know how much to pay people at the start, when you can give raises, and how much you have to advertise with.

Your business plan will tell you all of these things, if you follow it, and review it every six months or so; your business will be a success. A word to the wise about the investors; make sure that they are in it to make money, and not be owners of your business forever.

My investors want to make their money plus twelve percent, and be out in four years. This is what you should look for; you don't need them around telling you what to do with your business. Keep in mind that if your do what they want, you will be able to use them again, it's a great benefit.

My experience writing a business plan for my auto restoration shop has taught me a lot about the business. Obviously I already knew how to restore cars, but that is but a small part of what it take to run a successful auto restoration shop.

Your business plan will need to cover everything, so you need to know what everything is. This includes but is not limited to, hand tools, air compressors, welders, plasma cutters, paint booths, and it does not stop there; but this is all a crucial parts of the business plan.

If you go to a shop, and just take a look around you will notice a lot of different tools an equipment; this is what you will buy with some on the money from your business plan. The rest will be the purchase of a building to run the business out of.

I did not talk to even one investor that didn't want the backing of property for their money. I would be very suspect of it if you do, all you need to do is to think about it. If you where the investor, what would you have to guarantee the return of your investment if the business went down?

Just follow these things that I have mentioned in this article, and don't get disappointed if it takes a while to locate the investors to get your business started, and you should get it done. Not to mention the the fun that you will have when it's up and running, have fun with your shop.
