How to Write an Essay Paper

wendy van
Many of us parents have had to teach our children how to write essay papers for school. The problem is that we haven't been to school in so many years so we may not have a clue what we are doing. We feel terrible because we know that our child's grade is depending on us. Today I would like to give you a little tutorial on how to write an essay paper. After I have explained it you will realize how easy it really is.

The first thing that I like to explain to people is that a good essay paper is like a great sandwich. The reason why I say this is that we are going to use a sandwich for an example to build our essay paper. When you go to make a lunchmeat sandwich there are layers to it. Right? I like to say that there are five layers to my sandwich or my essay.

1. a piece of bread
2. lettuce
3. tomato
4. lunch meat
5. a piece of bread with condiments

The layers of an essay are the following:

1. an opening topic
2. paragraph 1
3. paragraph 2
4. paragraph 3
5. closing comments

Now I'm going to give you instructions on how to write the essay. When you choose an opening topic you are going to choose a topic that is going to be able to be talked about through your whole essay. Make it an interesting topic. Make sure that you can write three different paragraphs about this topic. Basically you are going to want to be able to tell me three different things about this topic. With each paragraph you are going to want to expound on that item. When you go to do the last paragraph which is the closing comments you are going to repeat what is in paragraph number 1 but you are going to add a little bit of condiments to it. Add a little bit of summation or details from the other paragraphs. Below I am going to give you an outline to help you out so that you can understand what I am talking about.

What was my Worst Job (this is your opening paragraph or topic sentence)

why was it my worst job (paragraph 1)

how did it make me feel (paragraph 2)

what did I do about it (paragraph 3)

Closing Comments (this is your last paragraph)-repeat some of what was in number 1 paragraph and some of what was said throughout the other paragraphs.

I hope that this tutorial on how to make an essay paper has helped you. The next time that your child brings home homework and tells you that he has to do an essay paper this should make it easier. It will also make it easier for him to understand how to do it. If he follows it correctly he should get a good grade on his paper.
