Resumes are a concise summary of your professional accomplishments allowing employers to see your level of education, outside interests and a means to contact you by email, postal mail and telephone. Here are a few clear tips for putting your resume together.
-Keep It Short. Most human resources staff members, warrant only two pages for a resume. You really need to get all your information in on one or two pages. Recruiters receive 100s of resumes and may overlook yours because it is to long. Also, keep in mind we live in a fast pace world where everyone wants quick fast information easily to sum up in minutes or even second.
"I used to be a recruiter for Sun Trust and many of my applicants would have 3 paged resumes which made the process harder. I just needed quick bullet points explaining their qualifications and job experiences," advised Nitika
-Keep It Simple. Three pages of regular-sized type are preferable. Do not use tiny type making it impossible for the Human Resources company to read. Also, use white or off-white paper . Never use paper that is not conservative and neutral.
"I received a resume with a picture of the applicant along with his family. I couldn't believe the applicant did this. I immediately discarded his resume and did not even consider him for a position," advised Kadetra a HR recruiter.
-Don't Lie. The personnel offices may find out if you have been misleading because most companies do a thorough check of an applicant's credentials especially if you're considered a serious candidate for the job. There was a case when a candidate lied about graduating from college and a year into her job she was found out and let go.
-Separately Offer References. I wouldn't necessarily attached references to my resume until I am asked. And remember to contact the people you'd like to use as references and get their approval before you list their names on your reference sheet. Make sure your references are going to comply and will be available to complete the reference information.
Therefore, in order to get your foot in the door you need a clear updated resume that Human Resources managers can clearly understand. Your resume is an example of you before the employer meets you.
