Planning Objectives
The first objective addresses how each individual department fits into the bigger scheme of the ccompany. In the case of the IT department, the first objective in IT addresses access to computer systems, and how they will be integrated with the business and the company's goals. A sample objective could state how the department will plan and deliver services, how employees will access those services, and how the department fits into the company at the job at large.
Service Delivery Objective
The Service Delivery Objective
This objective states how services will be delivered. An example for an IT objective comes from the FCC: IT Strategic Objectives. A good IT Service Objective should address delivery of technology. It also should mention a safe, secure, and effective technology.
Improvement and Streamlining
All businesses are striving for improvement. Also, with the tough economy, all workplaces are trying to find how they can streamline services, and cut back on expenses. This should be addressed in an objective. A great IT objective for Improvement and Streamlining should mention improving the overall information management and service provided to all customers. It would mention how the services fit into the overall budget of the company and how they can streamline services to fit the budget needs.
Privacy and Security
All companies want to ensure privacy and security for their employees and customers. This is even more important concerning technology and computer related services. With information available to anyone via computer systems, companies and business partners want to ensure their information is private. An Information Technology objective should address this area. A mention needs to be made concerning privacy and security. The objective should also mention something concerning privacy, reliability, and how information technology will be used in the company. The objective should address appropriate use of information technology within the company.
These sample objectives will hopefully help those who need to write objectives within a company. They play an important part in directing where a company is heading.
