How to Write Your Own $7 Report

In February of 2007, Jonothan Leger created something of a marketing storm by releasing a report called $7 Secrets. The report, which sells for just seven dollars, brought in more than $3,000 in sales in under a week, defying the widely held belief in internet marketing circles that customers are more likely to buy a higher-priced product that has a greater perceived value.

One element that made the report so popular is that buyers could sell it themselves through their own email list or website through a URL containing their PayPal email address, and receive the full $7 from the sale of the report directly in their PayPal account. In that way, a purchaser could receive back their $7 ten, twenty, a hundred, or even a thousand times by simply sharing it with other people.

$7 Secrets reveals why selling information products for a low price like seven dollars is a very profitable business model. It makes the product available to even the most humble business person, and everyone who purchases it then enters into your sales funnel. By requesting (or requiring) that purchasers sign up for your autoresponder service, a one-time purchaser can become a life-long customer.

A $7 report is also a great opportunity to provide buyers with what is known as a one-time offer (OTO), which is a deal that visitors will see only one time and never have the opportunity to take advantage of in the future. This is a very effective way of creating the kind of angst that turns casual visitors into desperate buyers.

The great advantage of Leger's $7 system is that this whole process is automated. His report comes with the exact scripts (or code) that he uses to sell his own report. Simply put in your own site's information (and autoresponder information if you have one), and you can be up and running in as little as 15 minutes. I'm not an expert in internet marketing (or anything else for that matter!), but for this model you can make your own product with a bit of effort that is worth every penny buyers will pay for it and more.

I decided to write a $7 report on a subject I knew a bit about, how to get great testimonials for your business. I took my own experience as a starting point, and did some online research to fill in any gaps that were missing. After putting together a 24-page document and including some screenshots and analysis of what works and what doesn't, I had my product.

To make the website, I simply had to take the files that come with $7 Secrets and put in my own information. I signed up for Aweber, one of the top autoresponder services, and set up my autoresponder series of messages. The scripts come with step-by-step instructions, so setting them up to run on my website didn't pose too much trouble. I had a friend purchase the report just to try it out, and after a couple of glitches everything worked just fine.

There is now a website called www.7dollaroffers.com where authors can list their reports that are sold using the $7 scripts for free. Reports are approved within 48 hours, usually less, and are then added to this rapidly growing marketplace.

In order to make a good first appearance on the site, it is advisable to have a graphic designer create an ebook cover for your report so it has a professional look.
