How to Write a Poem

Spawesume
Poetry. Its an art. A story. A point of view. A true piece of someones soul in the form of words. It is the one true form of expression. You may be wondering how to create poetry. I will explain to you how. Poetry is not something based on true structure and order. It can be anything. It can rhyme or have no rhythm what so ever, either way it may very well be a poem. It can be one line, or be 20 pages long. Either way, it may very well be a poem. The art of poetry can not be learned, it can only be realized. You do not sit down studying poetry to write poetry. All you need to do is sit down. Just sit down and think. Think about your life. Think of your past. Think of your future. Think of anything. Just think.

When writing poetry you must focus on what you are trying to say in the poem not the structure of the poem it self. A poem written with horrible grammar thats full of spelling errors and incomprehensible slang, may say more than a poem written in perfect grammar, with perfect spelling, made up of sophisticated and advanced words. As I said before just think. Poems can be on anything, from fact to fiction, to a real event to a false. When I write poetry I tend to touch on the question of "what if...?" This is just my personal style of poetry and you can have your own that may be totally different but still great. Poetry has often been used as a way to release your emotions in a safe and healthy way. If you ever feel melancholy or have anger within you, I suggest writing poetry based on how you feel. Not only will you probably feel much better after, but you will have an interesting piece of writing on how you feel and what you think.

If you are having trouble thinking of what to write, look for some inspiration. Look around you and write down what you see. Maybe write about what you would want to see. If you really need some inspiration maybe you can read some other poetry that was already written. There are thousands of poets and millions of poems. Read as much as you can see a variety of writing styles. You can even read a story or watch the news. Inspiration is all around you. All you need to do is look and you will find it.

Now that you have read this I hope that you will begin to write some poetry. Make it meaningful. Don't follow a guideline. Don't take this as a guideline. This is a collection of suggestions for you. Make your own style and just write. Just think.

Good suggestions. I think poetry can be easier for some people to write and understand than for others, though.
