How to Write a Popular Blog

g christine
There are a small group of really popular blogs, with hundreds of thousands(or even more!) readers and fans. If your goal is to become a popular blogger, then you need to study WHY those few blogs are so popular, and others are not. The first step is to read the most popular blogs. You will soon find out that they have a couple of things in common that other blogs don't have.

Choose a topic you are wildly passionate about.

If you don't have any passion for what you're writng about, it will be obvious. If you aren't people will know. You won't draw your readers in, and you won't be able to keep them coming back. You don't even have to be a great writer (I'm not going to lie, you have to at least be GOOD. If you'˜re just a crappy writer, either take the time and figure out how to improve your skills before you even try blogging as a career, or choose another profession altogether.)

Choose a blog topic that has mass appeal.

Popular blogs are popular because a lot of people read them. You have to choose a topic that will pull in a huge number of people. There are a lot of topics that can pull in a ton of readers, you just need to find one of them that you are passionate about, and you are set. What are topics that a lot of people are interested in? Some topics are celebrities, food, humor (people like funny stuff, but you'd better be able to be funny on a regular basis, if you want to keep your readers) politics, money.

These two ingredients, picking a topic that has mass appeal, and that you are also enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and extremely passionate about, are the keys to creating a popular blog. Everything else can be learned and figured out along the way, but if either of these two things is missing, your blog will simply never be popular. If your passion is something extremely narrow, you may be able to create a devoted, yet small, audience. This is great if that's what you want. But if your goal is to become popular on a large scale, it's just not likely to happen.

Once you have figured out something that you're passionate about that has mass appeal, start writing. How and what you write is what's going to make or break you. It's all in your content now. Work on that above all else. 80 percent of your time should be coming up with great blog posts. The rest can be learned along the way. I'm not saying "If you build it, they will come". That's not likely to happen even under the best circumstances. You NEED to learn how to network and get your blog out there where it can be seen. You will need to learn the ins and outs and the technical aspects of the blogging business. But once you've started to develop a winning blog, you're halfway there.
