How to Write a Product Review

Ryanick Paige
When looking for product reviews online, people are looking for real life review about how a product works and performs. The product reviews should be a testimony to the products durability, value, performance, and use. It should be a factual statement to people about the product. A product review should tell people about the things the commercials and website do not tell you. They should be about your personal opinion of a product and how it has performed for you.

I have recently come across a large amount of product reviews where they are not personal reviews about the product in question. I know personally when I read a product review online that I am looking for an actual review from a person owning the product, not what I can read on the back of the package or on the manufacturers website. I try to follow a brief how-to guide when I am writing product reviews. Here are a few questions that I ask myself as I write them. They are questions that I like to see answered when reading a product review.

1. What prompted me to buy the product? Was it reading other reviews or just watching the commercial? Was it a specific feature that caught my eye?

2. Is the product made well? Can it withstand the normal wear and tear that will be put on the product?

3. How did the product perform? Did it perform the way it should? Did it perform how the commercials or reviews claim that it does? Does it meet the expectations you had for it? For example on skillets, I think scrambled eggs and cheese are the hardest things to clean when a pan does not perform how it should. When I test my new skillets, I almost always make scrambled eggs with cheese and no butter in the pan.

4. Would you recommend it to a friend? Would you buy it again if you had to make the choice?

When reading a product review hearing real experiences on how a product performs is important to my decision making process. I can watch the commercials on TV, I can read the specs on the back of the box, and I can visit their website and read their so-called customer reviews. This is not what I am looking for in a product review and I am sure most other people are not either.

I just got back from a week long vacation at the beach and was thinking hard about doing some product reviews on some of the things I couldn't have done without while there. I have never done a product review before so I was a little hesitant to do it, but you make it sound easy. I think I'll give it a shot and make sure to use your great questions.

You did a great job on this. I'm going to keep it in mind for any reviews I may write in the future.
