Using articles to market your product or an affiliate product is great because it's free and relatively easy. It's also viral marketing, being that many directories allow webmasters and ezine owners to take that article and use it, as long as they keep your resource box intact. Best of all, that article will be around for years to come so you will continually drive new traffic to your website all from an article that took you about half an hour to write.
Some people love writing articles and others hate it. Whether you're an article creation lover or hater, writing articles is useless unless it actually gets read. Many inexperienced writers do not know how to write for optimum results. Needless to say, this can be very disappointing for your traffic stats.
So how do you write an article that people actually want to read? Then how do you get them over to your website?
First and most important is your title. I can't stress this enough because the title can make or break your article. Search through an article directory and take note of which articles catch your eye. These articles probably have strong titles that claim to offer you something you want to learn.
Below are some tips to help you with writing attention catching titles:
Say something shocking.
Say something controversial.
Use "How To ____".
Use "Warning, are you ______".
Use "10 Easy Steps To ______".
Appeal to the reader's emotions and desires.
Next, you want to make sure you write an article that's relevant to your title. Don't use a misleading title just because it sounds good. Anyone unfortunate enough to land on your article will be disappointed and click the back button in a second.
You should also make an effort to be pleasant with your writing style. On the internet, using short paragraphs is an absolute must. People on the internet have a short attention span and too much black text will turn them off. Keeping paragraphs to a few lines makes your work much easier to read. Use proper grammar and punctuation so you don't irritate anyone with confusing terms or wording. You want to make your article as easy to read as possible, so that they finish it and move onto your author's resource box.
Get them to your resource box! Don't ever give away too much in an article. This might provide the reader with all they ever wanted to know on that topic, so they'll just leave without checking your site out because there's no air of mystery left for them. In the last paragraph, you want to hint at something they haven't learned yet, which subtly encourages them to click on your link.
Give them a reason to click on the link in your author's resource box. The worst thing you can do is have a boring resource box when article marketing. Many people just say something like "Click here for more information" but that is WRONG! Hint at something they will gain from your website and leave the link in plain view. Again, it helps to use the same tactics you use for your headline such as stirring controversy or appealing to the reader's desires.
Follow these tips above and I guarantee you can make it with article marketing. There's so much in it for you, yet nothing to risk! Start writing and distributing articles correctly so you can reap the benefits.
