How to Write About Recording Artists

Open the Studio Door!

Recording artists are thought to be interesting people.

Not only do the efforts of recording artists often result in remarkable music, these musical outpourings have also been created in the secluded and mysterious world of a recording studio.

As you write about recording artists, then, you are attempting to describe a private musical world, a world that is generally off limits to all but a select few.

This is a challenge that has to be overcome because, in order to write about the mysterious recording artist, you have to know something about the artist's personality.

Biography and Motivation

You can begin the job of writing about recording artists by taking the factors of the recording artist's life and personality into account and seeing whether these features complement the music that is being produced.

For example, it would hardly be surprising that a recording artist that came from an impoverished background would want to record songs that dealt with issues of human rights.

The point here is that by combining the biography of a recording artist with the type of music they produce, you can write about recording artists in terms of what motivates them to create music.

Instruments and Innovation

Although it may sound surprising, not all recording artists are wealthy people. The instruments and recording facilities that some recording artists have to use might even be considered below average.

As you write about recording artists, however, you can use this situation to your advantage.

For example, if a recording artist is using below average equipment, doesn't this person have to be extra creative to record the same quality of music that others do?

A section of your writing about recording artists, then, could have to do with instruments and innovation.

Apparently, the more primitive the equipment, the more these recording artists would have to be innovative to overcome obstacles.

Recording Session Notes and Posterity

Lastly, a way to write about recording artists is to provide the reader with an outline of the actual recording sessions.

These recording session notes would provide the details concerning who wrote the song, what instruments were played on the song, and the time and date the song was recorded.

These recording session notes always make for fascinating reading to those who value the posterity, the musical legacy of their favorite band.

In sum, because the recording studio is a private place, you might find it difficult to get to know and write about recording artists.

With perseverance and the right approach, however, you can open the door to this fascinating musical world.

I can use this information. I'll soon be interviewing a group that is rapidly growing in popularity. My son is good friends with the guitar player/singer. They recently finished their music video in L.A. Look for my interview within the next couple of weeks. Thanks for this info!
