How to Write a Resume that Will Stand Out

Linda M. McCloud
The key to getting that dream job you want may lie in your resume. Whenever there is a job opening, the personnel manager may have to wade through 10, 20 or more resumes. This means if you want the manager to notice your resume it needs to stand out above the others. Here are some tips to help you.

Begin with the basics:

Make sure it provides all the basics that all resumes must have:

• Perfect spelling

• Perfect Grammar

• Nice placement of the need information

• The correct information: your contact information, education information, past work history, skills, special training, etc.

• Keep it at one page or never longer than 2 pages

Give it eye catching appeal

Giving your resume eye catching appeal means that it is pleasing to the eye and easy to ready. You can do this by:

• Make sure the information is centered correctly

• Using bullet points instead of the boring paragraph form.

Highlight your accomplishments

Any would be employer will be interested in what you did at your last job. You can describe this in the accomplishment section instead of a duty section. Highlight those areas in which you are the most accomplished. When you can, try to use words from the job description you are applying.

Always add a testimonial section

No, not every employer may expect you to add references to your resume. Yet, you should still add these references. You should even go further and add a testimonial in the form of a quote from your previous employer. This will add clout to your resume and show that you left your job in good standing.

Writing a resume is an act that you should take very seriously. The resume along with the cover letter may be the key reasons you land that next perfect job.
