Hindi films draw huge audiences around the world. If a Hindi movie is a hit, nearly every person who has worked on the film stands to benefit in some way. They get more movie offers and more chances prove themselves and achieve success in the Hindi film industry. Songs are an integral part of a Hindi film and are usually the most remembered part of any film. A Hindi film songwriter gets credit and awards for doing a good job and if his or her songs become popular.

Step 1

Think about the audience that you want to target. Nearly every movie made in the Hindi film industry, also called Bollywood, is made for the masses and has highly commercial content. There is usually a pattern to Hindi films, and each situation has a song. There are happy, sad and celebration songs. Love songs are popular in Hindi films so it is good to start from there. Watch old Hindi films to observe how a situation for a love song or a celebration song begins and try to gain inspiration for your writing from there.

Step 2

Plan out your thoughts. Once you have an idea about the kind of audience you are writing for, make a list of different situations and think about words to describe feelings and happiness or sadness. Sit in a peaceful area to compose your songs. You will be able to listen to your thoughts more clearly, although some writers get inspiration even in the noisiest of places. Hindi film songs do not use complicated words, so keep your writing simple so your songs are easy to understand and remember.

Step 3

Write the chorus first if you are stuck at an idea. You can develop a song from the chorus and even get the title for your song. A song chorus is often used in Hindi films and even movie titles are derived from the chorus. So you might have a good chance of having a Hindi film named after your chorus or song if a producer really likes it.

Step 4

Make a draft of your song. Read it several times to see if you like it and if you are able to visualize a situation for your song. Make sure you construct your song like a story so the listener is not bored. Most Hindi films have specially shot sequences for songs, so it is necessary that your song has a story to tell, unlike in Hollywood movies where songs usually play in the background.

Step 5

Rewrite the song and refine some words and phrases that could be more suitable. Make sure to have some friends read it and give their opinion about the song.

Step 6

Send your written songs to music directors and producers to see if they like them and want to use them in their films. One way to grow contact with music directors and producers is to visit film sets where the movie is being shot. Persistence is the key. Network with agents who can help you get a break.
