First, choose the days you'll want to have the sale. It's best to allow about two weeks of time to prepare for it. Preparing for a yard sale involves some sorting and you'll want to have time to do this in order to have a fair amount of items to sell. The more items you sell the more money you are likely to make.
Start by cleaning your home as you always do. However, while doing so, keep your eyes open for things you do not need, want or use. As you look around you will see that there are many items in our homes that simple take up space and cause clutter. Pull those items off from shelves or out of closets and set them in an empty area that can be designated for "things to sell at the yard sale".
Use boxes to put the things that you can sell into. That'll make it easy for you to collect them and to move them when it's time to set up. The more things you find to sell throughout your home the better. When you've cleaned one room move onto the next. By the time you are done with each room of your home you will have a lot to sell.
Use folding tables to display your items on. If they are not available simple spread a few blankets or sheets on the lawn to lay items on. Arrange things neatly. Sort items by kind and use, and keep like things together.
Instead of marking every single item with a price you can make signs for a group of items. One sign that says $1.00 each can be placed on a table with things on it that can all sell for a dollar. Another way to go about it is to have people make an offer. Make sure that you have a cash box. You'll want to have some cash and change on hand to make change for customers as you make sales.
That's it. That's all there is to it. Having a yard sale is quite simple. If you have your sale for two or three days you'll be sure to make a bunch of sales. It is a great idea to advertise in newspapers the week before, placing an add that states your street name and town, along with the days your sale will be held. Don't forget to put signs at the end of your street, with an arrow pointing your way. Also remember to take down your signs when you are done having the sale, so people aren't still looking for it. Thanks for reading and take care!

My mom is the yard sale queen. She practically sets up a store in her huge garage....she uses cameras to watch for thieves....lol she's nuts, but she makes good money at it when she does it! Great tips here :)
