Many yoga practitioners believe that yoga is a tool that can help scoliosis sufferers to improve their quality of life and help to align the body naturally. Many scoliosis sufferers who use yoga to help align their spine naturally often yield better posture and pain relief. The natural curvature of the spine helps to distribute stress throughout the back and help to keep the head positioned correctly over the pelvic area.
Only a very small amount of people are affected by scoliosis but many of these people are unaware that they have the disease. In the United States, it has been estimated that as much as 2% of the entire population is affected by scoliosis. This disease has been found to be hereditary, which means it is passed down from parent to children through genes.

One of the most effective poses in helping to relieve scoliosis pain is call the crocodile twist, other effective poses include the supine knee chest twist, the one leg up one leg out and the passive arched back.
Doing yoga also helps to relieve the effects of scoliosis naturally by helping the emotional well being of the person. Many people forget that the emotional health of the patient is a very important aspect in the healing process. Yoga can help scoliosis patients find pain relief naturally, it can also release some of the tension and anxiety that results from the condition and also help restore the natural curvature of the spine.
