How to Get Yourself Up and Moving in the Morning

Linda M. McCloud
Mornings can be rough. You want to stay in that nice warm comfortable bed. You don't want to face the day, yet. But this attitude will get you nowhere. If you get up and get started sooner, you can get more done and you may even sleep better once night arrives, again.

But how can you get yourself up and moving in the morning? Hopefully, some of these tips will help.

1. Sleep with your blinds open. Then when you awake on those sunny days the sun will taunt you into getting out of bed.

2. Do away with your snooze button. Buy a clock that doesn't have one. Then when it goes off, force yourself out of bed.

3. Skip the morning news. Face it, news shows mostly talk about negative things that have happened. Instead of watching or listening to the news, play an energetic CD of your favorite songs.

4. Buy a coffee maker with a timer and set in before you go to bed each night. Then add the coffee and water to it every night before you go to bed. Have the timer set about twenty minutes before you wake up and then you can awake to the aroma of fresh coffee. If you love coffee, this should help you to stir faster.

5. Eat breakfast. Don't make your morning coffee the only breakfast you have. Yes, the caffeine may be good. But you need real food with that coffee.

6. Add fruit to your breakfast. Most of us aren't getting the required amount of fruits and vegetables we need a day. Why not get started with breakfast? Plus, the natural sugars in fruits will give your body a nice jolt.

7. Take a walk outside in the fresh air. This is a great way to start every morning. If you have no time for a walk at least pause and take in some nice breaths will you are outside.

8. Plan ahead. Lay out your clothes, briefcase, purse and other things you will need to take to work the night before and you won't have as much to do in the morning.

9. Tell yourself that you are a morning person. If you continually tell yourself that you hate mornings or that you are a night person, you will never be able to learn to function as well as you could and should in the mornings.

10. Go to bed a little earlier at night. This will help you to get the required amount of sleep you need and awake more refreshed and ready to start the day.

No, it won't be easy to learn to motivate and to get yourself up and moving every morning. Take it one morning at a time. Eventually, mornings will become easier and you may even learn to like them (along with the early morning sunshine and the sounds of the chirping birds).

Note: This writer is trying to learn to love mornings.

I was never a morning person until I had kids. Now I have been forced to wake up and function at ungodly hours. These are great tips!

The clan of the morning people have always been strange to me but since I have a 'regular' job, I have to act like I belong to the group. Thanks for some reasonable suggestions on how to accomplish morning with less drama.
