Howard Stern Disses Gabourey Sidibe Calling Her an "Enormous Woman the Size of a Planet"
"She's Never Going to Be in Another Movie"
Sterns claims that Hollywood does not have roles for women who look like her. Is he right?
Gabourey Sidibe is a large black woman who Lee Daniels felt was perfect for the role of Precious. She had no previous acting experience when she auditioned for the part. As a result of her performance, she was nominated for a 2010 Academy Award for Best Actress, in the same category that veteran Meryl Streep was nominated in. Howard Stern claims that Gabourey is too black and fat to ever qualify for another role. His sidekick, Robin Quivers, who is black, agrees. Says Robin, "You feel bad because everybody is pretending that she's a part of show business."
It is true that there are few actresses in Hollywood that look like Gabourey Sidibe that we have seen on the big screen before. Typically, if you're thin, young, and what mainstream society considers attractive, you're what Hollywood is looking for. If you're a fat black woman, your chances of finding roles are severely limited.
However, Howard Stern and Robin's claim that Gabourey Sidibe will find no roles after Precious is erroneous. Gabourey has been signed to play a recurring role on Showtime's upcoming series The Big C. She will play a student with a smart mouth. In addition, Gabourey, also known as Gabby, will star in the movie Yelling to the Sky.
Stern says Sidibe should lose weight. Does he have a point?
Says Howard Stern, "Listen honey, now you got a little money in the bank. Go get yourself thin. You're gonna die in like three years." As obnoxious as Howard and Robin are, should Gabourey lose weight to save her health? What we do know is that Gabourey Sidibe is nothing like the character she plays in Precious. She is a confident, young woman who does not have a problem with self image. She is smiling, intelligent and articulate in interviews and doesn't complain about her body. Listeners expect shock jock Howard Stern to be obnoxious. He doesn't look anything like Brad Pitt. He's no movie star. He's made his money on the radio - sitting in a chair, talking into a microphone and being obnoxious. It's how he got famous. Robin is Howard's sidekick and her job is to be a good sidekick. That's how she's made her money. However, if anyone is confident enough to ignore people like Howard Stern and Robin Quivers, it's Gabourey Sidibe.

Why does anyone listen to this jerk in the first place. Stern needs to put a sock in it.
I happen to think Gabby is physically beautiful, but then again I'm not always drawn to "typical" beauty. Gabby is not an unhappy woman. She could become an unhappy woman if people keep telling her she should be unhappy with her body. I bet a thin person full of stress will die sooner than a happy fat person will. If Gabby wants to lose weight, she'll lose weight. Otherwise, leave her alone.
Howard Stern and his cronies are allowed on radio because our constitution says they can be. Now having said that, I find it disturbing that society takes pity on a drug and or an alcohol addict who can't stay clean but attacks fat people at every whim. We don't want sympathy but we don't deserve the treatment we get. I was a size 14/16 when I started getting shamed into losing weight by my own family. Now the clothes in my closet range from a 26W to a 32W, so I am living proof that treating people bad so they'll lose weight does not only not work but backfires.
I am a large woman who happens to support Gaby. I pray for people like Howard and the woman with him saying those hurtful things about her. It is not for them to judge what they think is beautiful. I serve a god that makes no mistakes. Everything that this young woman touches, will be blessed because of people like them. I, like her am trying to be healthier. We, do not need some opinionated loud mouth to try to tear us down. If you do not have anything nice, or uplifting to say, shut-up.Look at urself, and put down the coke and alcohol for a while...
Howard Stern & Robin Quivers both need to be shot execution style in the back of the head. First of all why the hell is Howard "Sh*thead" Stern still allowed to be on a radio station. He needs to censored. There are ways to describe somebody but "enourmous fat black chick" is not one of them. I would love to go 1 on 1 with the nose Howard Stern and see if he can take an a** whoopin from a black man. Robin Quivers is a self hating sellout who does nothing but agree with the racist bastard. She also needs to be shot execution style in the back of the head. It's amazing how people get a microphone and feel they can say and do what ever they want. Look at 1930's actress Hattie McDaniel, who despite "weight problems" had a thriving Hollywood career. And she is beloved today.
Ms. Sidibe may continue to recieve offers, obviously those where her weight is either central to the character she's playing, or where it will not be a detraction (and distraction) from the character she's playing. That will be for the director to decide.
On a purely personal level? Yes, it would benefit Ms. Sidibe to lose weight; if only from the standpoint of safeguarding her health.
That's for her to decide.
