In the case of Reed Sandridge, the recipients are not always looking for someone to give them something. Reed will often approach those working where he happens to be, or someone enjoying a meal where Reed is as well. Reed then gets permission to snap a photo, asks for some info to stay in contact with the person, and likes to know what will be done with the $10.00.
Most people Reed Sandridge speaks with give a few details about their life, and as Reed has stated, he has no way of knowing if he is being told the truth. It just doesn't matter.
Howard Wu has not suggested getting any specifics from the stranger given $10 on Give a Stranger 10 Bucks Day. If for some reason you miss the 10/10/10 date, perhaps you can still donate $10 to a stranger.
