Movie passes. Movies are great for everyone, and the theater is a great hangout for teenagers. Around the age of 12, teens begin to venture out to the movies with friends, and movie tickets are a great idea. You can also buy money to spend at the concession stand. To make a fancy gift, tie the passes up with a package of popcorn or some movie sized candy.
Gel pens. These appeal to both genders and come in a variety of colors. They are fun to write with! Girls can use gel pens to write in their diaries, and both boys and girls will like these for schoolwork. You can buy big bundles and sets at wholesale stores like BJ's, Costco, and Sam's Club, or check out craft stores or office supply stores. Add in some special paper or a journal and you'll have a nice, simple gift.
DVDs. This past summer was a blockbuster summer, and those movies are now available on DVD. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is loved by many, regardless of ages. It makes a great addition to a teen's video library. Also newly available are Transformers, Surf's Up, and Spider-Man 3.
Lip gloss. Yes, this one is mostly for girls, although some boys do use chap stick (Shh!). They come in a variety of flavors and can be found anyway. Lip Smackers by Bonne Bell is an old favorite, Burt's Bees is great for the eco-friendly, and Bath & Body Works is also popular. You can mix and match flavors, put in a cute container or purse, and there you go. Some stores also have pre-made gift sets for extra convenience.
Various subscriptions. These will last throughout the year and apply to all kinds of interests! For movie lovers, check out Netflix. Video gamers have Gamefly. And of course, you can order a magazine subscription! For girls there is Teen Vogue, boys have Sports Illustrated for Kids. Check out magazines.com for more ideas.
Finally, there is the old stand by, gift cards. May I suggest a Target gift card. Target is quite trendy and has everything imaginable. Other places that teens like are fast food restaurants, book stores, and the mall.

Restricting Smoking to R-Rated Films in Order to Stop Teens from Smoking...I recently saw an ad suggesting that only R-rated movies should have scenes in which actors smoke. This is to help prevent teens from smoking. This is just plain dumb. - A Gamer's Guide to the Sims 2A brief guide to The Sims 2. The new ways of designing your Sims, their homes and neighborhoods.
