The HP OfficeJet J4550 All-in-One is a part of HP's OfficeJet printer series. Featuring the HP Thermal Ink, this all-in-one multi functional printer provides all the tasks necessary of any office - color printing, color copying, color scanning, and color faxing. A new HP OfficJet J4550 runs around $69.99.

On the fast-draft setting, the HP OfficeJet J4550 printer reaches speeds of 28 pages per minute, which is lightning quick, compared to other purchased I have purchased. Its color speed maxes at 22 pages per minute. The resolution on the fast-draft setting is acceptable for everyday purposes with 300 dpi, but should not be used for your business printing needs. The maximum resolution is 600 x 600 dpi for black ink, and 4800 x 1200 dpi for color. The printing quality looks great on photo paper.

I find that this printer is better suited for around-the-house means than in the office. The ink cartridges need to be replaced fairly often, but they are also fairly cheap. Unfortunately, the HP OfficeJet J4550 is prone to frequent paper jams and misprints, but the high speed printing makes up for any negative aspects. Although the printer includes a feature to print double-sided, the printer often malfunctions. Either it pulls two sheets from the paper tray at a time, or it automatically continues printing the odd number pages before you have a chance to flip the even pages.

The HP OfficeJet J4550 also supports color scanning, color copying, and faxing. However, setting up and using these features is rather difficult. Regardless, the built-in flatbed scanner can scan quickly at high resolution and works great. I have been unable to get the fax feature to work properly after much diligence, though. Copying is not very reliable, as the paper often jams, or two sheets are

The price of the HP OfficeJet J4550 makes this all-in-one printer a very tantalizing purchase. However, there are many negative, frustrating aspects and features that do not work properly. Printing and scanning often spit out eerie error messages, and the technical support and troubleshooting is lacking. I suggest saving your money and investing in a higher end all-in-one multi-functional printing unit.
