HP Pavilion Dv6t Laptop: A Review of the Pros and Cons

Kimberly Sharpe
The HP Pavilion dv6t Laptop is a fairly nice moderately priced laptop. It offers more then acceptable speed, a good sizee 16 inch wide screen display, and a built in numeric keypad which are all pros. Unfortunately, it does sacrifice a bit of keyboard space in order to accomadate the numeric pad which makes typing easily a little cramped if you have large hands. Although, this seems like a small sacrifice for those of us who find themselves using the numerica keypad extensively.

The price of this laptop normally hovers at around $650.00 which is reasonable for any laptop that sports a fast 2.0-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 processor. Its is also 320 GB. Many other similiar laptops in that price range do not offer the speed that this laptop clearly sports. This laptop has also been upgraded to feature 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530 or 1GB HD 4650 graphics which should appeal to the gamer better.

Here is a list of the various pros that the HP Pavilion dv6t Laptop sports.

1) 2.0-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 processor.

2) 320GB

3) Numeric Keypad

4) 16 Inch Monitor with Brightview. The colors are very crisp and bright which is quite appealing. But I have covered the resolution in my review of the cons which I feel is a serious drawback to the overall purchase of this laptop.

5) Acceptable weight at only around 6 pounds.

6) 7200 RPM 320GB hard drive

7) External eSATA port.

8) 4 USB 2.0 ports (2 on each side)

9) HDMI port for connecting to a HDTV

10) Bluetooth 2.0

11) Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n)

12) 5-in-1 media card reader

13) At least 3 Hours of battery life which is acceptable.

14) It will easily perform all video editing and photo editing that you might need.

15) 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530 or 1GB HD 4650 graphics

16) You can choose your choice of color schemes between the Espresso Black or Moonlight White but they are tacking on an additional $25.00 for color upgrade.

Here is a list of the cons.

1) I wish the resolution of the screen was better. It is only 1366 x 768. This is a serious drawback for anyone wishing to purchase this laptop. Display is extremely important and I feel that you can purchase other laptops within this price range that offer a far better resolution.

2) The display is hard to read in bright sunlight.

I think this laptop is more then acceptable for the moderate price tag that it sports. The pros outweighs the cons by quite a bit which makes it very appealing for anyone considering a laptop purchase. However, if this display is an issue then you might want to look elsewhere because the resolution is truly not up to snuff. It is unfortunate because this is a nice laptop and I don't understand why they have stuck it with this unacceptable resolution level.
