HP TouchSmart Disabling Tips

Some features of your HP TouchSmart PC will automatically become disabled when another setting is being used. For example, the mouse, keyboard, and touch screen will stop running when you use the remote control to play video games. But there are times when you should manually disable the TouchSmart such as when you want to clean the screen. Other times, you may want to hide a tile (software program shortcuts) to keep your main programs more easily accessible.

Disable HP TouchSmart to Clean the Touch Screen

1. Turn off the computer.

2. Moisten a paper towel or soft cloth with household glass cleaner and use it to clean the touch screen.

3. Turn the computer back on when finished.

Disable a Tile to Hide It

1. Tap the "Personalize" button from the HP TouchSmart homepage.

2. Tap an enabled tile in the list of tiles that you want to disable. Tiles are software program shortcuts. When you open HP TouchSmart, a row of large and small tiles will appear at the bottom.

3. Tap "Hide tile in HP TouchSmart" and then tap "Done."

Disable TouchSmart Touch Screen Touch Response and Sound

1. Double-tap or click the "Start" button.

2. Double-tap or click "Control Panel" and then double-tap or click "Hardware and Sound."

3. Double-tap or click "HP Touch Screen configuration."

4. Tap or click "Disable" under "Touch Screen" to disable the touch screen response to touch.

5. Tap or click "Disable" under "Touch Screen Sound" to disable sounds in response to touch.

You can also hide (disable) those tiles you use least often. These steps apply to HP TouchSmart 600-1050 PC, however, other models have similar steps.
