HPRP Grants Reward Rapid Rehousing Initiatives for Homeless
Neighborhood: Royal Oak
Royal Oak, MI 48067
United States of America
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has instituted a grant program to award rapid rehousing initiatives to cope with the problem of homelessness. HUD's Homeless Prevention and Rapid Rehousing Program, HPRP, is offering grant money and relocation funds to get homeless people out of shelters and into stabilized housing. The program provides short-term and long-term housing assistance, financial help with security deposits, utility deposits and utility costs. It is designed to help with credit counseling, case management, mediation with housing officials and other costs incurred. The goal is to get individuals and families out of temporary programs and into dwellings that can provide permanent residence. This program is a proactive move toward solving the problem of homelessness. In Royal Oak, the South Oakland Shelter and Salvation Army have been designated to assist with fund distribution.
