H.T Grill in Redondo Beach, Calif., Chuck Alvarez and 2 for 1 Martini Night

Loraine Alkire
H.T Grill located at 1701 Catalina Avenue, Redondo Beach, Calif., in the heart of Riviera Village, is an excellent place for drinks, great appetizers and good entertainment. But nothing beats their 2 for 1 Martini night.

If you're lucky you might just get to hear Chuck Alvarez on acoustic guitar, playing with any number of accompanists. It doesn't get better than this for a Tuesday night. The ocean is half a block away for a nice stroll after dinner, or for kissing round about midnight.

Chuck Alvarez been a regular player on 'Tuesday 2 for 1 Martini Night at H.T Grill' for some time now. Chuck is a Legendary Guitarist with a who's who list of people and bands that he has done concerts with that is literally a mile long. Most recently he played the Tim Weisberg Show with Weisberg at Alva's Performance Gallery in San Pedro and The Chuck Alvarez Freedom Festival in Long Beach, also on that same day he performed at Colombia Park in Torrance with Lisa Haley & The Zydekats.

Props to H.T. Grill for finding such a great performer for their venue.

Last week when Chuck Alvarez performed at H.T. Grill he was accompanied by John Balesteri on an excellent short scale bass that needed explanation. Turns out it was a Rob Allen Mouse 30, a very interesting instrument.

H.T Grill is very well laid out with a large bar and many tables spaced just far enough apart to enjoy, dining conversation and the music. The acoustics were pleasant and the two some band was a huge hit playing both original and cover songs for the crowds enjoyment upon request. Not surprisingly they were able to take almost any request that came along.

The FOOD!

Trios of foods and dips are awesome when dining out with friends because what one person doesn't take akin to the other person surely will, making the dish appetizing for everyone. H.T. has plenty of trio dishes including the following:

The complementary bread basket comes, garlic fococcia, flat bread and poppy seed grissini. It's served with three great dips hummus, chimichurri, and a delightful olive tapenade.

H.T Grill's delicious calamari tossed with lemon, garlic and fresh oregano was cooked to perfection and served with a trio of garlic aioli, sriracha (a very hot asian sauce but very good) and sweet Thai chili sauces. The combination meant that you could dip hot and then dip cool to keep your mouth from burning.

They don't stop the trio theme and keep right on going with an excellent desert 'Circus of Creme Brulee' that includes Kahlua, passion fruit and vanilla flavors.

The Dinner Menu favorite would be the -Gorgonzola Crusted Prime Flat Iron Steak
USDA prime steak crusted with gorgonzola cheese and finished with port demi glace, served with sautéed vegetables and garlic mashed potatoes.

As far as the two for one martinis they come in a multitude of flavors- The lemon drops martinis are superb. (This writer was glad to have a driver so that she could enjoy them.)

All and all, I highly recommend this fine establishment!
