High Tech Computer Corp., (HTC) a previous OEM manufacturer that has recently sold its own brand of smart phone devices, has announced the availability of the HTC Advantage, a mobile computer, in the United States.

HTC is a Taiwan based manufacturer known for making OEM smart phone devices. HTC's OEM products that are marketed in the US includes; the AT&T 8525, AT&T 8125, T-Mobile Wing, T-Mobile Dash, and the Sprint Mogul to name a few. Recently the company launched the HTC touch, a phone somewhat similar to the iPhone in terms of multi-touch technology but lacks the beauty and features of the iPhone. Incidentally, the Spring Mogul is the company's first phone in the US that sports the company's own logo.

HTC will offer the HTC Advantage, unlocked, which means customers can make use of any sim card from any US wireless carriers. According to Techweb, this will be the first time that the company will be selling a smart phone that is not locked to any wireless carrier.

The device weighs in at just 359 g and is 133.5 mm in length and 99 mm in width with a thickness of 16 mm. HTC designed the HTC Advantage to be extremely portable, small enough to fit into a purse or jacket pocket, and packed it with productivity features. The Advantage has a 5-inch VGA touch display that incorporates HTC's VueFlo technology, a QWERTY keyboard magnetically connected to the screen, Intel PXA270 624MHz processor with ATi Graphic chip, 8 GB hard disk drive, 256MB of ROM, 128 MB of RAM, 3 megapixel camera, miniSD card slot and runs on Windows Mobile 6. Users can be connected in many ways through the HTC Advantage, it has Wi-Fi connectiviy, Stereo Bluetooth, Built-in GPS, TV and VGA out for connection with external TV, and runs on Quadband GSM and Tri-band UMTS/HSDPA.

Productivity suites included in the Advantage includes Microsoft Office Outlook Mobile, Microsoft Office Mobile for quick editing of Microsoft Office documents, and Windows Media Player Mobile.

Peter Chou, chief executive of HTC said that the HTC Advantage is a mobile computer that includes a large display and increased memory while keeping portability and global 3G connectivity. "Building upon HTC's strong track record for bringing cutting-edge mobile devices to the market, the HTC Advantage allows customers to bridge the gap between being mobile and being in the office," Chou said.

The HTC Advantage is available now for $899 at Amazon.com and CompUSA.
