Budget Travel Tips for Non-BCS College Bowl Games

andrea gonzales
It's that time of year again. College football bowl games are in our immediate future and rabid college football fans are foaming at the mouth to attend one of these bowl games. The Bleacherreport.com has ranked the best and the worst 5 Non-BCS bowl games on their website. The two that rose to the top of their list of the best were The Poinsettia Bowl and the Chick-fil-A Bowl. And while these bowl games aren't as well known or popular as the Rose Bowl or the Cotton Bowl, there is still a good value for money to be had. Discounts may actually be easier to find because these games aren't as popular.

The Poinsettia Bowl

The undefeated Boise State Broncos vs. Texas Christian University Horned Frogs

Dec. 23, 2009 at San Diego's Qualcomm Stadium

Arestravel.com offers packages and discounted hotel accommodations during the Poinsettia Bowl. Book Online or call 1-800-763-0614 for assistance.

Hotel Guides has a convenient search feature specifically for this game, offering hotels near Qualcomm Stadium.

If you don't already have tickets to the game, you can still purchase some online. Tickettriangle.com still has tickets ranging from $59.00 to $165.00.

The Chick-fil-A Bowl

Georgia Tech Yellowjackets vs. Louisiana State University Tigers

December 31, 2008 at Atlanta's Georgia Dome

According to the Chick-Fil-A Bowl's website home page, they are offering premier Club and lower level ticket packages. They are nearly sold out so don't wait any longer.

Tickets are also still available at Ticketmaster.com.

One of Delta Airline's hubs is in Atlanta. You may find a great deal on airfare on their website Delta.com or you can contact their reservation department at : 1-800-221-1212.

Another great site to search for deals is the Atlanta Visitor's Bureau website.

Starwood Hotels has about a dozen properties listed in the Atlanta area that still have availability. The Westin Buckhead Atlanta is about 20 minutes away from the Georgia dome and their prices between December 30th and January 2nd range between $169.00 and $239.00 per night plus tax.

The Westin Atlanta Airport location has availability as well and their rates are between $92.00 and $159.00 plus tax per night.

As always, travel sites like Travelocity.com, Orbitz and Expedia are worth checking out for package discounts. Additionally, auction sites like Ebay or Craig's list might offer an opportunity to snag up last minute tickets to the game.

There are deals out there to be found. But you better get moving on this fast. The window of opportunity to snag one of these great deals is slowly closing. I'd hate for any rabid college football fan to miss out.
