In 1970, more than forty years ago, Joe Raposo wrote a song entitled "it's not easy being green" for Kermit the frog, a character on a new children's program called Sesame Street. Of course the song depicted Kermit's dissatisfaction with his color, kind of like Clarence Thomas is with his hue, but that's another story for another day. Environmentalist enlist the title of Kermit's sonnet to express their dissatisfaction from industrial polluters to your regular run of the mill discarders of trash and waste. Give a hoot, don't pollute was the credo of our government since the advent of Earth Day in 1970. Woodsy Owl, the mascot of this environmental message made millions and millions of Americans actually give a hoot about our environmental future.
As a matter of fact, Republicans from Theodore Roosevelt to Richard Nixon (who created the EPA) to George H.W. Bush were staunch supporters of maintaining our nation's illustrious beauty. But something strange happened in the POGs march to power over the past 20 years. They expeditiously and succinctly began taking a regressive stance against science that pitts them against environmental protections, among other things, and made the EPA as well as the Interior Department public enemy number one. Pretty Boy Floyd and Machine Gun Kelly must be laughing their azzes off at the idea clean air and clean water has replaced them as America's most formidable boogeymen in the 21st century.
I realize there was a niche not yet addressed when Republicans started letting Dirty Mary and Crazy Larry test drive their hooptee. But I had no idea, given enough initiative, water could actually be transformed into oil. Racists, Anti-Abortion advocates, Misogynists; even I hear, Boris and Natasha of Rocky fame were being used as weight to balance a lopsided boat. This was not a voyage of the USS Enterprise. It was more like the signing of the world's most detestable criminals in that mindblowing scene from Blazing Saddles, where Hedley Lamarr was picking a gang to storm the town of Rock Ridge.
Reports dictate states will really feel the negative impact of the budget arrangement that passed congress, eased through the senate, and was signed by President Obama. And trust, it won't be long before law enforcement, firefighters, ambulance drivers, and of course medical expenses are downgraded to a barely effective level. Is this what Tea Party kooks really want? A United States in virtual anarchy?
These lamebrains have to realize that every action has a reaction. Its not rocket science. If you strip states of necessary revenue, they'll either have to raise taxes exponentially, or cut services. Two minus one equals one no matter what mathematical table you use. And get this, the Tea Party's not satisfied with the current level of cuts. Are you kidding me? When you play around with father time your'e likely to get your clock punched. In their haste to "take back America" they're actually taking America back to the Jurrassic period. They spread all those lies about Democrats wanting to kill grandma where in essence, they actually do kill grandma.
Look, I don't hate tea party poops. I couldn't possibly hate any fellow countrymen or women. I wholeheartedly disagree with their politics, because I've managed to develop sufficient wisdom on the outcome should 95% of Americans feel they're on their own legislatively. When begging, borrowing, or stealing are your only options. There's no place for that in our nation. I do believe we absolutely must get our house in order financially; And I realize many programs that assist our poor, downtrodden, and even middle class citizens will have to bite the bullet --- but not until the bullet explodes in your mouth.
Richie Rich and Daddy Warbucks are going to have to start wearing their red, white, and blue top hats...join hands with the rest of America, and sing cumbaya. I realize most of these high hatters believe they're not subject to the same sacrifice as the janitor, or receptionist at their respective corporations as it applies to mutual sacrifice, but they are. This is after all America, and although you're free to earn as much money as you possibly can, you should still love your country enough to pay your fair share. It's as simple as that.
