Pensacola's Theatre West and "A Coupla White Chicks Sitting Around Talking"
April 14-17, Pensacola's Theatre West Presents John Ford Noonan's New York Based Comedy, "A Coupla White Chicks Sitting Around Talking."
Although it's offered up in Pensacola's Sanctuary in the Groves Theatre West, this two-character comedy's setting is in the suburban Westchester County, N.Y., kitchen of Maude Mix. Maude, a prim suburban housewife is having a very bad day: her husband is gone on a weekend fling with his young, secretary. To make matters worse, Maude's misery and anger has been headed off at the pass by her pesky new neighbor, a raucous and gutsy southern gal from Texas, Hannah Mae. The two unlikely allies join forces to put philandering husbands in their place.
This long-running Off-Broadway hit opened in 1981 and starred Susan Sarandon and
Eileen Brennan. Pensacola's Theatre West production features Laura Sebastian as Maude Mix and
Yasmine Cobbet as Hannah Mae Bindler. The show is directed by Pensacola's Theatre West Artistic Director, Paxton McCaghren. McCaghren promises that women in the audience will recognize and empathize with the characters, and men in the audience will cower from them. Adds McCaghren, "This dark comedy about relationships will have you laughing at the absurdities and aching from the realism."
