Why 'Before Sunrise' Is the Movie for Valentine's Day

Ben Kenber

For me there is no movie more romantic than Richard Linklater's "Before Sunrise." Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy play two people who meet by chance on a train headed to Vienna, and they end up spending the day together walking through the town and revealing things about themselves they wouldn't otherwise reveal.

There is absolutely no semblance of Hollywood formula here, and each moment and emotion feels absolutely genuine. Whereas a movie about two people talking may seem like a bore, this is anything but that.

Watching this movie made me feel so good and warm in a way most others do not. As cynical as this world is, it is such a treat to have a movie like "Before Sunrise" in existence. You come out of it yearning to have the same connection with someone as Hawke and Delpy have with each other here, and it makes you feel good about humanity.

I am an actor and writer, and they both serve to keep me sane in an increasingly insane world. I mostly write movie reviews, but sometimes I try to go outside of that to write something else.  View profile
