If you live in New York City, you do not have to travel far to have an enjoyable ski holiday. There are some super ski resorts in the nearby Hudson River Valley, at the most an hour and a half drive from the city. Be sure to check with the resorts for any special deals. They all have ski instruction and are family friendly resorts.

Mt. Peter Resort is just one hour north of New York City, a great place for a day trip. They have free beginner lessons for skiing and snowboarding. That is something you will not find anywhere else. They have a lodge and tavern, cafeteria, outside pavilion and grill, full rental shop and a retail shop and they do make their own snow.
There are some great places to stay in the area, so come for a weekend or longer and enjoy the beautiful Hudson Valley.

Thunder Ridge Resort is just 90 minutes north of New York City. Thunder Ridge Resort has 30 trails, 3 chairlifts, a t-bar, a handtow, and a magic carpet. And they can make snow. They have many special events all season long. Check the site and see if you can come for one or more. There are some great places to stay in the area.

For those who prefer cross country skiing, there is Pineridge Resort. It is a bit further north, but there are not many resorts devoted to cross country, and when you find a good one, you want to come back again and again even if it is a little further drive. They have 35km groomed trails, 15km ungroomed trails for snowshoeing & skiing, 4km lighted trails for night skiing and
20km skating trails. Try one of these inns when you come to stay.
