Local Oregon Politics have become extremely frustrating to the residents of this beautiful State. When the political race begins the advertisements are short and self-promoting and in the past we the residents of the state were able to determine who was best for the position of Senator and Congressman. However, in the last few races the incumbents and their challengers began to use those great smear campaigns to gain votes.

About 2 months or more before the actual voting takes place the politicians begin their smear campaigns by putting forth accusatory advertisements. This year we have Huffman vs. Wyden. Now Senator Wyden is the Senator for my district and has done some great work for me in the Capital and also on a personal level.

Huffman however, is claiming in his smear campaign advertisements that Senator Wyden voted for the Healthcare Plan costing our States Medicare recipients a great deal of money to fill that $500 billion dollar hole in the Healthcare Plan. Read about Huffman's claims here to learn more. Senator Wyden was aware that these dollars that will be taken from Medicare and put towards the New Healthcare Plan hurting the Oregonians who are on Medicare.

This statement in the Huffman smear advertisement is false. Senator Wyden actually presented the Healthy Americans Act to President Obama when the President opened his doors to others who could provide a plan for Healthcare for our Nation. This Healthy Americans Act focused on preventative care, and incentives to keep their subscribers healthy to cut down on the medical costs. Visit Senator Wyden's website here to see Senator Wyden's stats.

Not only did Senator Wyden have a proposal against the new Healthcare Act he tried to steer the Government towards a different plan altogether.

These kinds of smear campaigns pull voters away from what is important and with a play on wording and tricks up their sleeves the runners for office have a foot in the door to the Capital.

This is extremely frustrating as over the course of several years now we the voters have been so disillusioned by the campaign jargon that we have voted in several politicians that were not good sources for the needs and wants of each State's citizens. It is time, in my opinion, that smear campaigning be stopped and that our campaign advertisements be held accountable for the false comments and manipulative movements so that these men and women who do not have our best interests at heart are not voted into office.

Our country is in dire need of some good men and women in Washington DC if the USA is to pull out of the recession and come out of this recession a stronger more competitive Nation in this world.

I agree, you never get what they are running for, just who they are running against. It's worse when the commercials are just lies, like the one talked about in Fla now. I want to know what the people I vote for, stand for.

I hate it when pols spend more time trashing other guy than telling us what HE's going to do!

It's really bad in Florida, where a rich guy is trying to buy the governor's office.

This Oregonian is also frustrated by these smear campaigns. I'm at the point now where I never vote for an incumbent, and usually only vote for Independents. If I really don't like any candidate, I vote for myself :)

This is a common practice and such a turn off to voters. Just face the issues.
