Also, anecdotal, but solid, evidence exists that artificial fertilization processes interfere with natural selection processes by allowing "less than optimum" sperm to become the basis for procreation; lower IQs, lower birth weights, more hereditary proclivity to diseases.
Finally, the current evolutionary model is going through a period of intense confusion and diffusion, with society protecting those whom natural evolutionary processes would have weeded out, and certainly would have prevented reproduction of negative survival traits; driving with both phone and ipod going, while applying makeup; phone, ipod and changing pants at 70 miles per hour.
Orderly evolution occurs but in the context of time, wherein survival traits are selected and reinforced over generations.
In response to the theory of disparate evolutionary outcomes that have long ago disappeared, might it not be possible that the diffusion of various evolutionary selections led to their own remote development and evolution, outside of the mainstream we have observed. Might a theory of primary origination and later migration and remote, perhaps uninterrupted evolution, side-by-side, explain the different species observed over time? And isn't the overlap possible by simply postulating that some of those migrants and wanderers returned, even thousands of years later?
And, considering the effect that humans can exert on evolution on other species, dogs, cattle, plants, one has to wonder at what traits the species is selecting for right now.
I think a fork is coming; brain power vs. other survival traits that are more physical. Question: Which survives?
Oh, and right now we're "selecting" for the ease of food procurement by proliferating food sources in which no survival characteristics are required to obtain calories, and as reflected by the increase in average weights of children and adults.
Hail, McDonald's, down with gym class!
