Human Hair Extensions Stolen from Chicago Beauty Supplier

A Chicago beauty-supply store security camera recorded Easter morning thieves pocketing human hair. The robbers took up to $90,000 worth of human hair extensions, according to store manager Darlene Barnes.

Jay Han, owner of Beauty One, on West Roosevelt Road in the city's South West Side said the thieves targeted Perfecta Products, top-of-the-line human hair used for extensions and hair braiding. Han thinks the thieves will try to sell the beauty products on the street for quick cash.

Each package of hair has an estimated value starting at $100, according to a news report by Chicago's ABC 7 on April 25.

No Cash Stolen

The hair heist started around 6 a.m., according to recorded video footage, when the thieves broke into the rear door of the business. The thieves only stole human hair extensions, leaving the cash register untouched. Perhaps the thieves were fashion savvy and knew the tresses could earn them top dollar on the black market and not be traced like cash.

The hair thieves made their get away in a white van after the security system sounded, before police arrived. Chicago residents who notice street vendors selling packages of Perfecta Products human hair extensions should report the peddlers to local authorities.

Selling Human Hair

Unlike cash, the beauty products only hold value for the thieves after the hair sells. With wide-spread media coverage of the robbery -- including video footage posted on Chicago's ABC 7 website -- the robbers will have a hard time re-selling their hairy goods in Chicagoland.

Approximately two years ago Beauty One was targeted by thieves. However, the earlier break-in targeted the store cash. No human hair extensions or other beauty supplies were stolen during the first robbery. Currently no leads connect the two incidents.
