Human Hustle

Life is War

Arkay Evans
Salutations, Lord,

Comes your servant once again

reporting live from the human hustle,

It is here that some days do feel more

like 7 years and 4 score,

and still, even then, we are blessed where we've been,

even when our humanity fails,

and chains lock the yoke of a rich man;

I saw him collapse beneath the dollar,

his mind took leave under pressure

like dark matter

weighing the ton of a billion suns

and nestled on his narrow shoulders;

I felt and saw his spirit struggle,

eyes turning red

at spines weak and yellow,

I saw the mob he'd duly served

turn their knives upon him,

even then, the day came new,

Just by your grace, Lord,

Many thanks,

for private rest, where I can clearly see

the diamond you've given me,

and even more meaning in The Knowing of your flock,

believing, praying and willing,

Giving and learning 'In God We Trust',

And so I watched,

as it occurred

the importance

of how a man must learn

that never should the wage of a human hustle,

become the lord a human serves
