Why Should Businesses Be the Only Ones to Profit from the Exploitation of Your Identity?
Is the sale of our personal identifying information profitable enough to notice or should we, the people, ignore the money that is exploited from our very existence? If it is not profitable to those businesses and entities to sell that information, then why would they do it? It is obvious: to try to gain revenue and business/political connections.
If it is profitable and the existence of the person is necessary to the derivation of that income, doesn't it seem reasonable to expect that there would be a percentage of royalties for the use of the information going back to fund the source, you, the identity upon which it all hinges?
Wouldn't that be nice? Imagine, if you had a penny paid to you for every time a person called you or emailed you or sent you some garbage mail? That is not a major income statement per call (roughly 1 cent per call, email or piece of garbage mail) but they do sell the lists of our identification rather cheaply to one another.
That in itself is an insult to the people of the United States of America. That we are sold out cheaply to those who merit the freedom of such incomes less than those they exploit!
Corporations have long protected their rights to their corporate identity (i.e., usually in association with a trademarked corporate logo) and they are quite vicious at protecting that identity. The laws seem to favor this sort of protection for the corporate identity, giving corporations and businesses the ability to seek monetary damages, or royalties for the improper use of that corporate identity.
Why isn't there serious legislation for the paying of royalties to any name used in connection with any identifying number, such as a driver's license, social security, phone number, street address, or any other number uniquely identifying you as a real person, such as a credit card number, membership or account number.
Do you want to stop killing trees, stop filling mailboxes with spam and junk mail, stop assaulting answering machine with dial tones and stop the exploitation of each and every person born in this country or naturalized? Call or contact your state representative and tell them you want protection just like the corporate entities receive for their identification information and you also want the same financial deal for the use of your logo (personal name attached to any uniquely identifying number as listed above) that the corporate world receives.
It is funny that a corporate or business entity is usually not real but has more rights in this regard than real people that the not real entity uses. And this all forwarded by a political/law structure which cannot by law pursue the forwarding of any fictitious entity. In doing so, perhaps it is violating establishment clauses in the constitution.
Many sociologists and anthropologists would agree. There is significant ritual, sacrifice, praise and family tradition involved to call corporate business ideology adherence a religion.
What is needed is more respect for the integrity of the people and that is gained by affording them the same privileges that the 'servants of the people' enjoy - Good healthcare, exploitation protection, security measures beyond belief, retirement benefits for the same time spent in service, pay raises at regular intervals, and so on. Otherwise, representation seems to be a sham. How can a 'representative' represent, accurately, people that are no where near as financially affluent? Does this mean then that their lives become servitude to a series of perpetuated lies? That is harsh and I hope it is not so.
Respect the identities of those whom are what this nation is all about by ensuring that if they are used that they profit from that use. In addition, keep ahead of the shifting technologies and shifting marketing schemes as I am sure the market would just come up with a loophole and exploit it. That is the nature of business and competition. This measure would require wisdom. Perhaps requiring the registration of a business marketing schemata in order to get approval that it is not a rip-off of the nation's, the peoples', resources.
