What is the Real Story of Humphrey the Humpback Whale?

Debora HIll
When Humphrey saw the top of the metal monument, he knew he was in the right place. He felt a surge of excitement, and surfaced in the water, spraying his spume as far into the air as he could. This was the place! He could remember it -- his friends were here, and he would be able to see them again. And maybe -- just maybe -- they would know where Ilonnee was. He thought of himself as Humphrey now, because it was what they had named him...the strange, small, quick creatures who lived outside the water and had spent so much time rescuing him, during the last southward cycle. He had been a very young whale then, and easily lost. Now he considered himself much older and wiser, but the other whales in his pod didn't seem to agree with him.

He would pass under the metal monument again, and his friends would be there! As the pod moved past the islands he began to veer off, but Miras was right there beside him, attempting to force him back into formation. Big brothers were a real pain sometimes.

"Where are you going, Tiranas? Don't do something stupid, like you did last year." Miras' sending was sarcastic.
