For the most part, the advances of technology have proved to be an overall improvement for our material quality of life, making things easier such as work and activities. These improvements may seem nice and most are harmless, but there are those that aren't as harmless as they seem. There should be a medium somewhere to balance everything out. Automobiles have been a blessing for humanity, but they are also a helping hand in killing the world slowly, but surely. All of the pollution caused from the "sent from God" contraptions that can transport us from point A to point B are also changing our environment. The trees that once gave us oxygen are being cut down to make room for more roads. Not only are the trees vanishing, but our climates are changing. With the rising temperatures, the ice caps are melting which is raising the sea levels which could and will eventually put the world that we currently know, under water; Atlantis all over again.
With the fast useful and dangerous technological advances it's really hard to tell how our future will look. With food becoming contaminated with deadly germs, water is no longer pure and has to be chemically treated just to make it safe for consumption, will we really survive? Wars rage on and with the newest technological advances in nuclear weapons, it could devastate the world bringing us all to death. Unless there is a major change in basic philosophy, there will not be a reduction in the process of making nuclear weapons for a very long time. The horrifying 911 tragedy was not only caused by humans and their destructive ways, but also technology played a part in that as well. If airplanes were never invented, this could not have happened in the way that it did.
Computer technological advances have compromised the security and privacy of the human race. Anything and everything can be found about a particular person over the internet. Identity theft has been on the rise since the progression of online banking, purchasing, and sharing emails with friends, family, and co-workers. Stem cell research, cloning, and abortion are just a few examples of the recent conflicts between moral purpose and scientific progress. Far from being decided, the discourse over the meaning of life and the essence of humanity continues. All three of these examples could be useful to the human race, but then again that useful technology could get into the wrong hands and become a tool for destruction. Technology means power, and having power can be dangerous especially if put into the wrong hands. The power of total annihilation of our race is within our reach and will soon firmly be in our grasp long before anyone is able to escape this planet and move onto the next one that will have impending doom as well. To continue on the path of creating newer technology to out do or intimidate someone else will soon be only thoughts in a primitive mind in which history will replay itself on a different planet. Are we stuck in this loop, of history repeating itself, of the human race destroying everything that was given to them because of a power trip? There is no way to win with technology. Wars will always rage, and man will always be contemplating a way to destroy another man and the world around him.
