When God created everything including humans and animals, He did two different things with a human that He did not do with an animal. First He created us in his own image, meaning that we have a body soul and spirit, of which animals do not. Second He breathed into man the breath of life and man became a living soul. Animals do not have a soul. Once an animal dies that is the end for that animal.
This does not mean we should not take care of the animals that God has put on earth for us. We must do our best to give them good care. However the problems comes when people treat animals better than they treat human beings. This is a terrible and tragic mistake for anyone that does this. It does not mean we cannot love animals. What this means that humans must always come before animals when there are needs to be met and care to be given.
How many of you would let your son, daughter, wife, brother, sister and anyone else starve to death by giving an animal food that is desperately needed by a human? If I had to kill a pet to feed my family in the case of starvation I would not hesitate. It would grieve me greatly and I would miss the pet dearly but I will not allow my family to starve if it is in my power to do so.
Some will claim that pets are part of the family. To a point they are, and it is ok to treat them as such but we must always keep in mind that the human members of the family must always have their needs met first. People will say if you can't care for a pet then don't have one. I agree completely with this statement. If you cannot give your pet or any animal you may own proper care, then find someone who can or is willing to take care of them.
When disaster such as hurricanes strikes and you cannot take care of the pets and your family can't afford to have your pets boarded then they must be left behind. Let them out with plenty of food and water and when you return you can recover them if they are still alive. This sounds cruel, but when responsible for a family you must make hard and many times unpopular decisions. I have had to leave all but a small poodle behind when we evacuated because of Hurricane Rita. When we returned every single one of our cats and dogs were ok and we recovered them. Our home was destroyed but they were fine. I was so glad to find them but do not regret making that necessary decision. If you have the money or the means then by all means take your pets to a border. Many places do not take pets so by taking them with you just increases your chances of not finding a place for you family to stay during the disaster.
I am an animal lover, but I also have common sense that helps me keep my priorities straight. I will always place my human family above my pets and other animals. I will place any human above an animal. That is just the way I am and despise me if you wish, it won't change me.
