Humiliating First Experience for Taylor Swift at the MTV Video Music Awards

Taylor Swift Deserves More Respect from Kanye West!

Matthew Shively
I always look forward to watching the MTV Video Music Awards, because you never know what will happen when you pack a whole bunch of stars into one room. However, this year was completely different for me. I was so disgruntled with what Kanye West did to Taylor Swift on stage during her first ever VMA award. I mean, come on Kanye she is still a kid with aspirations! Kanye just stole the spotlight right away from Taylor and on top of that he humiliated her in front of millions of fans and lets not forget all the celebrities in the audience. I personally am not a Taylor Swift fan but my girls love her, but that doesn't mean I tear down the spirits of another person especially in front of millions just because she is not my favorite.

We have to give Taylor a lot of props though; she pulled off a great performance shortly afterward on live television. Maybe she was nervous and still in awe from the shocking incident that happened just moments before, but she hung in there and looked the better person in the end.

The best part about the whole incident was the good sportsmanship of Beyoncé when she won her VMA award and brought Taylor back into the spotlight so Taylor could finish thanking all those that meant most to her in her wonderful singing career. Beyoncé has won awards and has been in the spotlight for many years. Also, Beyoncé said herself that she remembers what it was like to be young, new in the VMA spotlight, and winning an award for the first time. Beyoncé told everyone that when she was 17 and winning her first award that it made her feel on top of the world and she wanted Taylor to get her chance that she disserved.

Taylor Swift had to cross a couple hurdles to get in the VMA spotlight. Not only did she have to get votes on the pop side of the house she also had to get 100% of the country music votes as well. So, no matter what Kanye said it is obvious that Taylor Swift was has earned her award and should be respected just as much as all the other winner on the stage.

My question to MTV is why in the world would you let Kanye remain in the studio after something so horrific in the music industry? Not only did it make him look like a blustering drunken idiot it embarrassed the MTV VMA's for allowing him the opportunity to remain. My next question is if the role was reversed and if it were Kanye on that stage would a race card have been pulled and a racial battle launched?

I honestly use to enjoy some of Kanye's music, but I honestly have to say that I will no longer listen to his music, as he is no longer in the spotlight for me. What Kanye did completely out of line and more should be done than providing simple apologies that may not mean anything to him, but rather a publicity stunt. Hell he should write a good song about Taylor smiling. That would be something to hear.
