Hummus is a very popular appetizer selection. This flavorful chickpea bean and sesame dip recipe is an excellent alternative to cream cheese and sour cream dip. Not only does this recipe provide a fun party dip, but it does so nutrionally. This article will teach you how to create a hummus dip with basic ingredients to be used with pita bread.
Equipment Needed:
Blender
Knife
Serving bowl
Spatula or Spoon
Can Opener
Ingredients Needed:
Chickpeas or Garbanzo beans 1 can
Sesame Tahini Paste 2 tbsp
Garlic 1 clove
Salt To taste
Lemon Juice 2 tbsp
Olive Oil ¼ cup or as needed
Water As needed
Pita (Tortilla chips also work) Package size
Creating the Hummus:
Step 1 Open the bean can and drain the liquid
Step 2 Add the beans into the blender
Step 3 Add olive oil and lemon juice in the blender
Step 4 Blend the mixture
Step 5 Add water to achieve desired consistency, if necessary
Step 6 Pour the mix in the serving bowl
Step 7 Chop garlic roughly
Step 8 Add garlic to the bowl
Step 9 Add Tahini paste to the bowl
Step 10 Add a few pinches of salt to the humus
Step 11 Stir ingredients
Step 12 Taste and add salt as needed
Cooking the Pita:
Step 13 Preheat the oven to 300°F
Step 14 Toast pita bread in the preheated oven for 5 to 10 minutes or until golden brown and crispy
For Best Results: Do not microwave pita bread. It may become hard and rubbery.
Step 15 Carefully remove the pita bread from the oven
WARNING: Hot oven can cause serious burn injuries.
Step 16 Cut pita into small triangles
Step 17 Place the pita on a plate and it is ready to serve
Other Uses:
The leftover Hummus can be refrigerated for later use. Hummus tastes great on sandwiches and as a salad dressing.
Nutritional Value:
Hummus contains high quantities of Iron, Vitamin C, and Amino Acids. It is also an excellent source of Protein and Fiber. The amount of nutritional value makes this dip an superb choice for vegan and vegetarian diners.
