Humor Disarms -Part 1

T. Ramaswamy
Humor provides an effective antidote to anger if carefully handled. Usually we are not keen to engage ourselves in fight due to some one offending us or vice versa. This therapy generally works for us in our daily life. Rather than engaging in a fight with the other person or accusing his behavior it is helpful to deal with the situation in a funny manner For e.g. low ranking official sought an interview with the top executive of an organization seven levels above .The interview was not granted. Repeated requests met with rejection. The low ranking official was persistent and he went in person. By chance he met the senior executive at his residence and before anything could happen he expressed loudly his desire to see him.
He said. 'Sir, I want to see you.' The senior executive replied '.You cannot see me'. Then the low ranking official said, 'But Sir, I am seeing you'. This disarmed the senior executive and washed away his animosity. He granted the interview and agreed to grant favors to the low ranking official.
We can make fun of a negative situation. For e.g., a person made fun of a bald man pointing out the smooth surface of the head. The bald man replied, "I am happy that only the head is bald and not the brain. It is in tact". This silenced the other person who did not ask any further question or raise comments.
If you find the neighbor an indifferent and unfriendly person who throws garbage in your lawn help him by keeping the neighborhood clean on his behalf without complaining. Consider yourself a Good Samaritan who solves problems caused by others. Good disposition and intelligence easily eliminate anger and nervousness in all situations. Thus you will always be fine and happy. Humor, when rightly used, turns even the most dreadful situations into a comedy full of enjoyment. It provides, the opportunity to have a laugh and greatly improves your state of mind and physical health.
Laughter is a form of exercise. At least 15 facial muscles contract during a hearty laugh. Heart rate increases and tension in the body is released. Humor increases one's energy and improves immunity from some kinds of illness and depression.. So we must try to introduce as much genuine laughter into life as possible.
Sense of humor is so captivating that even our acquaintance would want to spend more time in our company. The capacity to feel some degree of comfort under adverse circumstances is a quality that many people desire in a friend.
Employment interviews create one of the most nerve-wracking situations. Job seekers wish to create the best impression fully knowing there are hundreds of competitors. Candidates will do well to opt for a little humor. They are likely to be nervous but can welcome the nervousness with a funny episode, which the employer may recall later while reviewing the candidate's CV and other documents. The same applies to those going for a talk in public. Sometimes just a little human touch makes a favorable first impression on others.
