Humor's Place in Safety Training

Peter Okwudi
As always in our minds but never see it coming or recognize that there are consequences until it happens. I like to inform my readers of what 's going on with our efforts to promote safety at all level of work places, especially in a chemical or traditional manufacturing environment. In this regard, I will like to share with every one information I received at the recent seminar. The seminar was somewhat different from the previous one I attended in the past. Usually, the reason I attend safety training classes is to broaden my knowledge on OSHA regulations, however, this seminar was far from compliance issues. This seminar was strictly on leaning how to deal with safety in a behavioral mind set. I would however, like to point out few topics we covered. They were called "Attitudinal and Behavioral improvements". Getting employees to take responsibilities for safety and bring a safety attitude to work place". Another was called, "understanding human erro and preventing the incidents". As you can see by the titles of the classes.Compliance was completely conspicuous in the OSHA regulations and were never mentioned. I feel like I can take this information and put together in the training exercises all employees can use in their every day lives.

I really believe that our safety program has come a long way in just a short time and would like to encourage every one to stay positive at home and at work as well. If you step back and really look at the whole scheme of things, our main focus is our families and friends , and every time you think about not doing some thing safety, your little voice will ask you this one important question,"would I want my family or friends to do this? ". I feel that most of you will say no to your little voice. When you equip your selves with humor's place in safety and done well, it will provide the following;

1) Better communication

2) Understanding one another

3) Erases tention and stress

4) Express difference in more contructive ways

5) And boost boredom.

As always, until then, please stay safe and listen to that little voice every now and then.
