Hunger Pangs: The Truth About Cravings

Ward Tipton
One very common misconception when it comes to losing weight on your own, is that you cannot do it all on your own. While it is certainly beneficial to check with a licensed and certified practicing medical professional before going on any diet, there simply is no truth to the fact that you cannot do it yourself. You already have something to help you that all of the education in the world cannot give to anybody else ... and that is your body. What you have to do is learn what your body is saying to you, why it is telling you something in the first place and what to do about it when your body speaks to you.

Your body is an amazing machine no matter where you got it from and no matter what kind of shape you are currently in and with all due regards to any other health issues that you may have. Again, those other issues are why it is necessary to get a full and complete check up before starting your diet, but as far as planning your diet and weight loss goes, you have everything you need no matter who you are, where you are or where you want to be with regards to your weight loss goals.

One of the most often misunderstood facts about the human body, is the cravings that we sometimes go through. Any woman who has ever been pregnant is likely to know all about these cravings. Most women also instinctively or consciously know that those cravings are because their bodies need certain foods, nutrients and other health benefits from the food that they are craving and they (wisely) give into these cravings. Mind you, not all of the cravings that people have are based solely on physiological needs.

If you just got shot down regarding that promotion or that raise and you have a sudden craving for cake and ice cream ... likely to drown your sorrows in ... than that is not very likely because your body has any physical needs for such substances ... although the endorphins produced by the consumption of certain foods could certainly make it seem that way. However, that is exactly why you need to not only listen to your body (and your mind) but to understand them and why you are having the cravings that you do. Psychological cravings are not due to your body lacking certain nutrients and treating them in the same manner is actually one of the leading causes of unwanted weight gain.

When you do suffer from cravings for certain foods, it is usually not because you are pregnant (unless you stay pregnant a large portion of the time) but the underlying causes for those cravings have the same message to impart to you. Your body is telling you that it needs certain nutritional benefits that can be gained from the foods that you are craving. What you have to do is learn to listen to what your body and mind and more importantly, discover exactly why they are telling you what they are telling you about the foods you crave. Why Do You Have Cravings? What to do about Cravings. What Cravings are telling You. Have you ever had cravings for certain foods? When you do, what should you do about it?
