Hungry in Gladwin, Michigan: Try Robin's Restaurant

John Parrott
If you find yourself either living or visiting the Gladwin, Michigan area, you have to try Robin's restaurant when nature tells you it is time to eat. Robin's is just the answer if you are interested in a large meal, or maybe just something light. You won't be sorry when you make Robin's restaurant your choice.

Robin's restaurant is located just north of the downtown district of Gladwin. It is about four blocks north of M-61 (Cedar Avenue) on M-18 (N. Silverleaf St.). It is fairly easy to find, and parking, although not overly abundant, seems adequate.

Mother's day this year included a full day of family fun including a big noon meal from the grill. After the full day and large meal everyone was interested in a lighter meal and a casual, family atmosphere.

We were also interested in eating in the Gladwin area, because of where we had spent the day, and where home is. Gladwin was about half way.

What is it that is so good about Robin's restaurant? If you are a non-smoker, Robin's is smoke free. The food is homemade and always good. Be sure to leave room for the homemade pies. You will think your mother is hiding in the kitchen.

Robin's is a clean restaurant with more comfortable seating than most. Their prices are in the upper end of low, or the lower end of medium. The food and experience is worth it.

The service is always top notch. All of the staff is polite and do a very fine job of checking frequently to make sure the customers are happy.

The menu is varied and has a fairly large number of items. Breakfast is available anytime. That isn't totally uncommon, but it is nice to know this little tidbit if, in fact you are interested breakfast at an odd hour. They offer their own specialty burgers along with a nice selection of other sandwiches. The dinner offerings are pretty much traditional, but come hungry.

If you aren't so hungry, as was the case with us during our visit, lighter menu items are available.

If you are into salads and like blue cheese, you have got to try theirs. It too is homemade and it may very well be the best I have ever had.

One of the mothers in our group was still pretty full from our earlier meal and opted for just ice cream. She ordered vanilla. When the ice cream came to the table, the portion was huge.

Obviously, Robin's is a family restaurant. With that in mind, you might want to know they do accept major credit cards. It seems many family restaurants don't, and that can end up being very embarrassing if you don't know in advance.

If I had to make a negative comment, I think it would be about their restrooms. They are pretty small.

Give yourself a treat if you are in the Gladwin area. Stop in at Robin's restaurant, if you are really hungry, or not so hungry. You will be met by friendly staff, clean dining area, homemade meals and desserts. The price tag is low to moderate. The experience is smoke-free, and Robin's restaurant isn't hard to find.
