Hunting Time

Melissa R. Mendelson
"Time is a funny creature, one that remains elusive, but what if we succeed in its capture? Would we wish for immortality, or would we desire to go back to where it all went wrong? We humans have such short term memory. Every moment we live is a portrait frozen in time. We can white out our future, redo the now, but who would we become? And what if we met the unexpected end? Never do we see the cliff before the fall, but we're too blind chasing dreams. We want to live forever. We want to rule the world, so we hunt for time, hungry for its power. But we humans are mere insects on the playground of gods, and like fire, we get burned. Every step we take is an echo left beating in another's heart, and to erase their bond is to break our mold. Maybe some things are better left alone, better left untouched, but do we know better? So, we hunt, begging for that last second, that last grain of sand. We're not done here. I'm not done here, but here lies the finish line. The race is over, and the winner is time, a mischievous devil that spins that wheel of fate round and round. And we give chase, ready for the next round."
